Monty resigned to losing big names at Wales Open

Colin Montgomerie has resigned to many potential Ryder Cup players not participating in the Wales Open at Celtic Manor next month, the very venue that will host the biennial contest against the US in October.
The European captain wanted as many potential European team players as possible to compete at Celtic Manor, which will be held from June 3-6. Montgomerie will probably be left disappointed because the event clashes with the PGA Tour's lucrative Memorial Tournament.
Montgomerie said, "I've asked everybody to play in Wales but I'm not sure about the entry list as such. Graeme McDowell is playing and Luke Donald has changed his schedule to play.
"Of course it's opposite the Memorial Tournament which is unfortunate, one of their biggest events. But as long as the ones that aren't competing in Wales compete well in the Memorial, I'll let them off."
The Scot added: "It's in their own interests to play there. If you win on the Ryder Cup course four months before the Ryder Cup it can do you no harm."
The 46-year-old will however be pleased about the turnout for the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth later this month.
This week Montgomerie will only be worrying about his own form as he tees off at the Italian Open in Turin.
