Montgomerie seeking victory at Gleneagles
Monty going for victory in home country as he aims for maiden Johnnie Walker title
Colin Montgomerie is in defiant mood as he prepares for today's Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
The Scot hasn't played in a tournament since the Barclays Scottish Open six weeks ago, but has insisted he isn't there to make up the numbers.
It is the only tournament in his home country that he is yet to win and would be an incredibly popular winner with the Gleneagles crowd.
His display at Castle Stuart also suggests he may be experiencing a resurgence in form. He says, "I look forward to contending and not just competing. I've been practising quite hard. My putting is a lot, lot better than it was.
"That's why I got to 11-under-par at Castle Stuart just after 38 holes. If I can putt well and keep the ball in play, I have a chance."
Putting on his Championship Chairman's hat, he spoke about changes to the course at Gleneagles saying, "The golf course has never looked better. The changes have been well received, especially the seventh. I think we have got that right now, the seventh hole.
"The 12th and 14th hole have more definition than they have ever had before, so that's great. And the greens are firmer - we have been asking for that. The feedback from the players has been very good, very positive."
