Montgomerie poised in Hong Kong
With the first two rounds of this year’s UBS Hong Kong Open in the books, Colin Montgomerie has himself well poised
With the first two rounds of this year’s UBS Hong Kong Open in the books, Colin Montgomerie is poised to make a run for a second career Hong Kong victory.
It’s not an unfamiliar place for Montgomerie, being amongst the top of the leaderboard, so with two rounds yet to play and a mere stroke to make up, the Scot is in a good position.
“I won here before in 2005 and it’s a place I feel comfortable with.” Montgomerie said. “I like the city and feel very safe here and it is amazing how one plays well in a place that you enjoy being in."
Montgomerie is currently seven-under-par for the tournament and trailing a group of four players at eight under, including the two Olivers – England’s Fisher and Wilson.
One player who didn’t fair so well this weekend, however, was European Ryder Cup Captain Nick Faldo whose rounds of 72 and 70, left him two strokes off the cut.
Meanwhile, American John Daly still finds himself in contention after back-to-back rounds of 68, putting him four strokes off the lead.
And on the Japanese Tour Sweden’s Henrik Stenson is just one off the lead at the Dunlop Phoenix, but pre-tournament favourites Ernie Els and Ian Poulter are currently well off the pace.
