Mickelson shows class at Pebble Beach
An impressive final round of 66 by a resurgent Phil Mickelson gave him a five shot victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
Phil Mickelson silenced critics who had questioned his form with a complete performance that gave him the 30th PGA Tour win of his career at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
After three days of rain and wind at Pebble Beach the sun finally came out on Sunday and the Californian crowds were treated to a masterclass by Mickelson. Going into the final round there was much talk of this being the first time Mickelson had lead a tournament since his collapse in the US Open last year. There were no signs of nerves as Mickelson dominated proceedings.
A double bogey at the fifth and a bogey at the thirteenth were small blips on Mickelson?s impressive score card which included no fewer than nine birdies. Finishing on 20-under Mickelson tied Mark O'Meara?s tournament record and earned $990,000, taking him to over $40 million in career earnings.
Mickelson was aided by a poor day from others near the top of the leaderboard. Overnight joint leader Kevin Sutherland could only manage a 71 which gave him second place, one ahead of John Mallinger who shot the same score. Englishman Greg Owen continued to impress on the PGA Tour with a final round of 67 that left him tied for fourth.
