McDowell stays hopeful of more play
With the rain easing, Golf Monthly columnist, Graeme McDowell, has spoken of the players' and fans' frustration at the suspension of play, but remains hopeful of getting back out on the course
Graeme McDowell has spoken of the players' and fans' frustration at the bad weather that has put a halt to play at Celtic Manor.
McDowell, playing alongside Rory McIlroy, managed to get through four holes, but play was suspended when they were 1UP on Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar.
"It's frustrating for everyone," said the US Open winner. "Obviously we have got the dry and all the food inside.
"These guys [the fans] are the ones that deserve all the respect and need to give them a big thank you for standing around and supporting us.
"The reception we got on the first tee was amazing and says a lot for what this Ryder Cup is all about. Let's hope we can get out there this afternoon and give the fans what they came here to see, some golf."
With daylight hours running out on Friday with only the fourballs up and running, a Monday finish is looking likely.
It is the first time that play has been suspended in the Ryder Cup since Valderrama in 1997.
