Matt Kuchar wins The Barclays

American Matt Kuchar took advantage of a nervy finish from Scot Martin Laird to win the first fedexcup play-off event of the season.

Kuchar fired a 5-under-par 66, but it didn't look like it would be enough as Laird found the 18th green in the 4th round in regulation. However his first putt shot 8ft past and then he totally miss read the putt coming back to take the tournament to a playoff.

Kuchar found the left hand rough on the first playoff hole but then managed to play an incredible 7-iron to within 3ft and to tap in for birdie which was enough to beat Laird's par.

This win takes Kuchar to the top of the fedexcup rankings and puts him in pole position to play in the year ending Tour Championship where over $10million are up for grabs.

Kuchar who made the Ryder Cup team at the USPGA Championship was overjoyed with the win and the season he has had "Even if I had shut it down without a win, I would have felt it was a great year," Kuchar said. "To win, it's an incredible year."

Tiger Woods who looked to be struggling to reach the next round of the playoffs had a good day on Sunday where he shot a 67 to finish 12th and mean that he climbed into the top 100 where he needed to be to play the Deutsche Bank Championship this week.

Woods now seems very confident after a much better week on the course "I haven't won all year," Woods said. "But this is a week that I was very close. I felt that if I would have putted better for all four days, I would have been right there. Looking forward to next week."
