World number three Lee Westwood confirmed today that he would be ready to play in all five matches if needed to at the Ryder Cup. However he hinted that perhaps he would not be needed for all of them.
"If Monty chooses to play me for five, then hopefully I'll be ready for it. I think we've got a strong enough team in depth that we can rest players, it is a tough course physically."
Westwood has not played competitive golf since August and was an injury doubt heading into the Cup but in a positive interview he seems to raring to go just a day before the cup starts.
"I don't have too many concerns. I've played well in the practice rounds, and I don't see how that's going to change in the competitive rounds."
Westwood did cast some doubts on how many rounds he would be able to play due to the potential weather conditions expected at the course.
"It's very heavy underfoot and it's quite hilly in places, and there's quite a lot of steep slopes to walk up to 36 holes a day."
A six-time Ryder Cup veteran, Westwood still sounded like he was totally in awe of the tournament's atmosphere and cannot wait to get started.
"You know, there's that intensity early and the buzz and there's big crowds in the practice rounds and things like that. So there's that keenness to get going and just to get out there."
