The Lee Westwood Golf School will open in September 2010, offering young golfers the opportunity to achieve academic excellence while further developing their golf game. Aimed at 16-year-olds and over, the two-year, full-time programme will follow a structured week from 8.30am to 5pm 36 weeks per year, combining academic studies and golf training, fitness, nutrition, psychology, short game, long game and competitive play, in both an individual and group context. "The school is an extension of me giving something back to a game which has given me a lot," said Westwood, at the launch of the Golf School.
"When I was 16 I didn't have a Plan B and I have no idea what would have happened if it hadn't worked out for me. Our school hopes to give all those who enrole a Plan B! The school will give teenagers a chance not only to develop their golf but also life skills and, very importantly, their education." The educational content of the programme will be delivered in partnership with Leeds City College and is aimed at achieving a BTEC National Diploma in Sport (three A Level equiv), allowing the students the opportunity to widen their career path, albeit in golf, leisure, further education or other related career paths.
