Lee Westwood agrees to Golf Roots Ambassador role

Lee Westwood has capped a fine year by agreeing to become Golf Roots Ambassador for the Golf Foundation.
The Dubai World Championship winner and Race to Dubai champion is well known for his passion for junior grass roots golf and he has decided to support Golf Roots, the national project which aims to develop playing and personal skills amongst all young people.
"It is a privilege for me to become a Golf Roots Ambassador," said the 36-year-old.
"The Golf Foundation has helped thousands of youngsters, me included, over the years and I am delighted that they consider me worthy of carrying the title and their good name forward."
The Golf Foundation honoured Westwood during this year's Open Championship at Turnberry, presenting him with its ‘Spirit of Golf' Award. The award recognises a superb contribution to junior golf by a leading player and previous winners include Gary Player and Tony Jacklin.
After an agonising three-putt on the 18th at the Turnberry, which cost him a play-off for the Open Championship, the PING man went on to win the Portugal Masters and Dubai World Championship, achievements that were recongised earlier this week when he was also crowned The Race to Dubai European Tour Golfer of the Year.
