Tiger Woods looked well on his way to besting Jack Nicklaus' 18 Major wins when he took a 14th title at the US Open in 2008, however the Golden Bear has admitted the current world number one now needs to up the ante to take the record.
Woods failed to win a Major in 2009 due to a serious knee injury, and his recent actions have failed to make a good impression on his game.
In his first tournament back in the public eye, the Masters, Woods beat the odds but did not come out on top, finishing in a tie for fourth.
Nicklaus, reflecting on Woods at the Masters, said: "He came pretty close, and I suspect he will win one or two of the next few if he is in shape to play."
Woods needs to win "almost two careers of a regular player" in the next five or so years to claim the Major record, according to Nicklaus.
The 70-year-old went on to comment: "He will probably go ahead and break my record. If he doesn't win this year though, he has a tougher road to go."
The current world number one is playing the Memorial Tournament hosted by Nicklaus himself next week, and hopes to take the trophy home as he did last year.
