With a minimum of 25 events and more than ?11.02 million in prize money, it's going to be an exciting 2007 on the Ladies European Tour. Four new events, a Major on the Old Course at St Andrews and, crucially, the return of the Solheim Cup are just some of the highlights.
Halmstad in Sweden will host the women?s version of the Ryder Cup in September, with skipper and home favourite Helen Alfredsson (pictured) hoping to bring the trophy back to Europe. It is an event that will do wonders for the profile of women?s golf on the continent, especially following on the back of the 2006 Ryder Cup in Ireland. ?The Solheim Cup will certainly be at the forefront of everyone?s mind throughout the season,? said LET executive director Alexandra Armas.
As if this wasn?t enough to make the watching public sit up and take notice, the finest in the women?s game will grace the Old Course at St Andrews for the first time. The Weetabix Women?s British Open visits the Home of Golf at the beginning of August.
The MFS Women?s Australian Open at Royal Sydney GC in February is the first of the four new events. The Northern Ireland Ladies Open at Hilton Templepatrick H&CC (May 31-June 3), the De Vere Ladies Scottish Open at The Carrick on Loch Lomond (September 21-23) and the Madrid Ladies Masters at an as-yet unspecified venue (October 5-7), follow. With seven events featuring prize money of more than ?500,000, it looks like a good year to be on Tour.
