Howell gears up for Quinn Insurance British Masters
David Howell will hope to continue his recent revival in form when he once again tackles a world-class field in September’s Quinn Insurance British Masters
David Howell shot a low-round 67 in the final round of the 137th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, battling notoriously adverse weather conditions to propel himself up the leaderboard for a tie for seventh place, his best ever finish in a major championship.
Howell proved his big tournament temperament when he out-scored playing partner Tiger Woods on the final day to win the HSBC Champions Tournament in Shanghai in November 2005. However, the man from Broome Manor had been struggling to regain the form which saw him burst into the top ten of the Official World Golf Rankings in 2006 since injury hampered his 2007 campaign.
His intention to join golf s elite in the Battle of the Brabazon at The Belfry this September comes in the wake of a second place finish at the Estoril Open de Portugal and his recent Open success, indications of Howell s determination to return to the top.
Speaking ahead of the Quinn Insurance British Masters, Howell said: Just like The Belfry, I ve seen my share of triumphs, disasters and unforgettable moments, so I ll be hoping to build on recent success on this world famous course.
Howell will join reigning champion Lee Westwood, fans favourite Darren Clarke, golf legend Colin Montgomerie and Irish Open Champion Richard Finch to compete for the £1.8million prize fund when the Quinn Insurance British Masters returns to The Belfry from 25th to 28th September 2008.
Andrew Chubby Chandler, Managing Director of event promoters International Sports Management said; David is widely regarded as one of the friendliest players on tour and I m sure many people will be rooting for him to finish with a flourish and go those few extra steps at the Quinn Insurance British Masters.
