Golf Monthly's week that was
At the end of a busy week in the GM office, we look back at the week that was, including new equipment on test and a look ahead to the weekend's golf action.
With a desire to keep standards high as well an exciting travel supplement coming your way in the next issue, Golf Monthly has been hard at work this week. But with the last of the summer sunshine fast disappearing we've also been trying to enjoy the Great British weather.
The FedEx cup commenced with The Barclays at Liberty National GC in New Jersey. Heath Slocum was a surprise winner although GM's resident tipster did manage to pick two of the top five in Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington.
On the European Tour, Peter Hedblom won the Johnnie Walker Championships by a stroke from fellow Swede, Martin Erlandsson. Paul Lawrie justified Krishnamurty's each-way tip by finishing tied third and giving any who backed him a tidy return in the process.
This week the PGA Tour is in Boston for the second leg of the FedEx cup, the Deutsche Bank Championships. Unfortunately home hope Paul Casey misses out as he still hasn't recovered from a niggling rib injury. The European Tour goes to Switzerland for the Omega European Masters in Crans-sur-Sierre - Jean-Francois Lucquin will bid to retain the title he won last year in a play-off against Rory McIlroy. Hopefully you've read both our preview and our betting guide to put yourself in the best position to put some extra money in your wallet.
Speaking of keeping money in your wallet, look for the 2-for-1 GreenFree voucher with your October Issue. It, as the name suggests, allows two people to play for the price of one at any participating golf course in the scheme. New to our reviews section this week was both the PING G15 fairway wood and the Rife IMO putter. If you're thinking of any new additions to your bag to be ready for the autumn make sure you read our reviews before buying anything.
Enjoy the weekend.
