Golf Monthly's week that was
A look back at the last week including some Ping celebrations following 50 years in the golf industry, plus all the news over the past seven days that has also seen Tiger Woods become a father for the second time
This week served as a great opportunity to celebrate the story of Ping’s 50 years in the golf industry. For those of you who bought the March issue, we’re sure you’ll agree, it’s a fascinating story, and perhaps even more interesting for those of you who remember Karsten Solheim’s early 1A putter. So, we highlighted just a few Ping classics, one of them being the G10 driver, still very much a popular choice.
On Tour, it was a relatively quiet week. Nick Watney wrapped up the Buick Invitational last Sunday in the absence of former winner, a certain Tiger Woods. Fear not, because it is now surely only a matter of weeks before the 14-time Major winner returns to competitive golf – his wife giving birth to their second child late last Sunday. What odds on Charlie Axel Woods winning a Major one day?
Talking of betting, this could be the week when tipster Paul Krishnamurty returns to form. There have been some close calls of late, but at the time of writing Dustin Johnson at 70/1 for the Pebble Beach Pro-Am is looking good, not to mention some promising tips in the Malaysian Open. We’ll have more betting guides next week ahead of the Johnnie Walker Classic in Australia and the Northern Trust Open in California.
Meanwhile, in the Golf Monthly Forum, Facebook somehow made the topic of conversation. The social networking site is not everyone’s cup of tea. Opinion is divided in the GM office, but as some of you point out, it is a great way of keeping in touch. Although we’d always recommend that you use our forum to arrange your next fourball, Facebook is a useful tool and, well, you’ll find Golf Monthly’s profile on there too! Why not look us up...
On Thursday we introduced a new weekly “Guess the course” competition. You may feel the “Total Game Plan” DVDs are a patronizing prize, but our Top 25 coaches really could improve your game in time for spring. Still not for you? Just enter for fun and test your knowledge. We’ll try and vary the difficulty and you never know, next week’s prize may be a little more enticing.
Looking out across the skies of London, the signs of a good weekend of weather appear more promising. Good news for some of the GM team who look forward to seeing the new TaylorMade R9 driver in the hands of Neil Tappin. Read confident Neil’s blog on Monday.
Join us next week when we’ll bring your all the latest equipment reviews, industry, golf and Tours news, and much more. Have a good weekend.
