Golf Foundation elects Catriona Matthew as Vice President

The Golf Foundation has announced that Catriona Matthew MBE has accepted the role of Vice President.

Catriona, winner of the 2009 Ricoh Women's British Open, joins Peter Alliss, Laura Davies MBE, Sir Nick Faldo MBE, Bernard Gallacher OBE, Tony Jacklin CBE, Paul Lawrie MBE, Sandy Lyle MBE, Alison Nicholas MBE, Karen Stupples and Sir Michael Bonallack OBE on a prestigious roll call of Vice Presidents for the charity that works to make golf more accessible to children from all backgrounds and abilities.

On receiving the accolade, Catriona Matthew said: "The Golf Foundation has been doing great work for many years. Encouraging youngsters is something that's very dear to my heart so I'm thrilled to have been asked to join an organisation dedicated to this task."

The Golf Foundation is committed to the sporting and social development of young people through golf in support of the national golf partnerships of England, Scotland and Wales. One of its primary aims is to link schools to golf clubs to help grow participation rates and its development team is particularly eager to aid in the development of girls' golf at every opportunity.

Mike Round, Chief Executive of the Golf Foundation, said: "Catriona Matthew has shown a strong support for junior girls' golf in recent years and she is certainly a wonderful role model for young players everywhere. We are thrilled that she has accepted this position as Vice President of the Golf Foundation."

The news concerning Catriona Matthew follows the announcement in December that Lee Westwood had signed up as a Golf Roots Ambassador for the charity.
