Golf bets selections: Omega European Masters

MIGUEL-ANGEL JIMENEZ is another who very much fits the 'course specialist' tag with six top-8 finishes at Crans to his name. He too rates a strong candidate on the basis of recent form at the very highest level, after finishing 13th in the Open and sixth in the Bridgestone Invitational.   Around the same 25/1 mark, a case could be made for Soren Kjeldsen and Graeme McDowell, both of whom can boast various pieces of excellent form this year. The latter has also thrived in this year's US Majors, making the top 20 in all three. As he also can boast a couple of top 11s at Crans, McDowell very nearly made the staking plan.   Last week's failed selection Niclas Fasth had some form here very early in his career, and had suggested a return to his best before Gleneagles. Alvaro Quiros and Chris Wood have claims on their wider form, but both missed the cut on last year's course debut.   Instead of any of those, OLIVER WILSON takes the final place in the staking plan. It may prove significant that Wilson had already registered very respectable Crans figures of 23rd, 17th and fifth by the autumn of 2007. Wilson was nearly always a rank outsider back then, unrecognisable from the regular contender that has emerged in the past two seasons. Oliver remains one of the very best players without a title to their name; a statistic that looks bound to change before long.
