Garcia to play in Qatar Masters
Spain's Sergio Garcia has confirmed that he will be joining a potentially high class field at the end of January in what will be his first appearance in the Qatar Masters
Spanish star Sergio Garcia has agreed to take part in the 2007 Qatar Masters at the Doha Golf Club, according the the sponsors Commercialbank.
The world number ten will be appearing for the first time at the event, which runs from 25-28 January in the Arabian Gulf state. It will be the ten year anniversary of the tournament and Commericalbank are celebrating a double coup after the announcement last month that South Africa's Retief Goosen had also comfirmed his place.
"It has always been our intention to take the Commercialbank Qatar Masters to a new level," explained CEO Andrew Stevens.
"We have invested heavily in the infrastructure of the event, commissioned the the construction of the best facilities in the Middle East and earmarked the players that we believe are are important to the global promotion of the tournament and Qatar. In Sergio Garcia we have attracted a player who will be hugely popular at the Doha Golf Club."
The Ryder Cup talisman will be hoping to get off to a fast start this season, having failed to register a win in 2006 despite a flurry of top ten finishes in Europe and the USA.
