First win in eleven years for Hedblom
In another thrilling finish on the European Tour a final round of 68 gave Peter Hedblom the Maybank Malaysian Open by one shot at the Saujana Golf and Country Club.
After struggling to make the cut on Friday evening Swede Peter Hedblom performed brilliantly on the weekend to take the Malaysian Open by one shot from Frenchman Jean-François Lucquin.
It was a day in which tricky conditions and a tight golf course meant that a big group of players were in contention on Sunday. At one point during the final round five players were tied for the lead and another seven were within two shots of it.
A 68 on Saturday had put Hedblom back in contention and within three shots of the lead held by Ricardo Gonzalez and Marcus Higley. Birdies on the third, fourth and seventh putt Hedblom right in the mix and three further birdies on the back nine were enough to take his first title since the Moroccan Open in 1996.
?I've worked so hard to get back and try to win a tournament and now I've won it. It's unbelievable. It's been 11 years and when you haven't won for that long, you question whether you can again," said Hedblom.
Simon Dyson continued his impressive form in the Middle East by finishing tied for third with Ignacio Garrido. Dyson will defend his Indonesian Open title next week. Overnight leader Marcus Higley finished tied for fifth after a disappointing final round of 74.
