DP World Tour Championship: golf betting guide
The final event of the European Tour season and the culmination of the year-long Race to Dubai, the DP World Tour Championship, takes place this week at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
The Race to Dubai is far from over, with nine players still in with a chance of overall glory. Henrik Stenson leads the way, but the likes of Justin Rose, Graeme McDowell and Ian Poulter are all vying to be crowned Europe's number one. Wins for Rose or McDowell would guarantee the Race to Dubai title.
Unsurprisingly, a strong field has assembled in Dubai at Jumeirah Golf Estates' Earth Course, a Greg Norman-designed track that, despite its length and numerous water hazards, tends to produce low scores. Rory McIlroy - who has shown positive signs of late - is the the 6/1 favourite with Ladbrokes, but the defending champion's odds aren't high enough to tempt me.
Justin Rose, at 7/1 with Ladbrokes, might be short priced, but he ticks all the right boxes this week. He's finished inside the top five in his last two starts and his record in the desert is superb. He narrowly missed out at this year's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and shot a final-round 62 last year at the DP World Tour Championship to finish alone in second.
Jamie Donaldson, at 25/1 with Ladbrokes, looks a very good bet this week. He outdueled Rose in the aforementioned Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and he comes into the tournament knowing a win could be enough to secure the Race to Dubai. He's also notched three top 10s in his last four starts, including an outright second at the Turkish Airlines Open.
George Coetzee, at 66/1 with Ladbrokes, is someone I think will enter the winner's circle in the near future. He's a powerful youngster with solid all-round statistics and a game well suited to the desert. Indeed, only Chris Wood's heroic 72nd-hole eagle at the Qatar Masters deprived him of a play-off berth. He also has decent record in the DP World Tour Championship.
