Des Smyth's rich kid
Former European Tour winner and two-time Ryder Cup star Des Smyth's son hits jackpot

Irish golfer Des Smyth has recently become the father of a multi-millionaire after his son scooped a mega-win on the Irish National Lottery.
Greg Smyth, 24, banked approximately $14 million after investing in a quick-pick ticket on August 13th not far from the family home in Drogheda.
His father, now 55, who last won on the European Tour in 2001 at the Madeira Island Open and was one of Ian Woosnam's vice-captains at the successful Ryder Cup in '06, was left rather shocked.
Competing in the States at the time of receiving the news, Smyth senior said: "Being so far away from things, it's hard to grasp. I played today but honestly can't remember a single shot I hit. I was thinking about him all day. He'll be well advised for sure. I just hope he takes it."
His son's jackpot dwarfs the rather meager looking $123,132 that his clubs have made him this year on the Champions Tour.
Such a win will undoubtedly assist the younger Smyth with his studies as he seeks to secure a degree in horticulture and with father's experience, a future in golf course design looks a distinct possibility.
