Day two at the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship
Golf Monthly contributing writer Michael Weston reports on the second day of the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship from Nailcote Hall in Warwickshire
The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship sprung into action today as golf fans were treated to a masterclass from some of the biggest names in European Tour history, with the likes of Tony Jacklin, Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam tackling Nailcote Hall's Cromwell Course in Warwickshire.
Celebrating its 80th year, the tournament has attracted a stellar field with Tour players from the past and present competing for prize fund of £100,000, the biggest pot on offer to date.
And whilst there were a few television personalities and former sports stars competing as the amateur in each two-man team - such as the BBC's Dan Walker and former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel - the real show was put on by the professionals, some of whom rolled back the years with apparent ease on a course requiring pinpoint accuracy from the tee.
Woosnam, who won the Masters in 1991, teed off in the afternoon alongside multiple European Tour winner Torrance, a marquee group which, unsurprisingly, attracted a great crowd.
There were big names all over the course, with the likes of current European Tour players Eddie Pepperell and Robert Rock attracting good followings as they looked to get off to a strong start in the first round of the Pro-Am event. Paul Broadhurst, who has won six times on the European Tour, was the leader late in the afternoon at six-under, but with a whole host of big names teeing off late, it's still early days at Nailcote Hall.
And with a number of Ryder Cup legends amongst the late starters, he'll be sure to have company at the top of the leaderboard later this evening.
Golf Monthly contributing writer, Michael Weston, will be amongst the amateurs teeing off again tomorrow. Make sure you follow the action on Twitter @GolfMonthly
