Course of the Week – Hesketh
Situated along the finest golfing coast in England, Southport's oldest course Hesketh is a fantastic mix of links and parkland golf. Make sure you drop by and discover this hidden gem.

The oldest course in Southport, Hesketh is a mixture of parkland and links, set among the Victorian villas of Southport?s premier residential area, Hesketh Park.
Course lowdown: The key at Hesketh is to keep the ball straight. Few of the holes have adjacent fairways so if you stray off line it?s generally into big trouble. An iron off the tee is often the sensible choice. Despite appearing flat many of the greens have subtle breaks so take some time to look at your line. The toughest hole, the 6th at 451 yards and into the prevailing wind this hole requires two extremely good blows.
Stats: par 72, SSS 72, 6,655 yards
Green Fees: wd £55 round, we £70 round. From Nov 1 £35 round.
History: Founded in 1885 the club takes its name from Charles Hesketh Bibby Fleetwood-Hesketh who laid out a course and persuaded Southport Golf Club to move and take his name. He also had a striking clubhouse built on a sand dune overlooking the course. It still stands today and provides the focal point for this great old club.
Location: Cockle Dick?s Lane, Southport PR9 9QQ
