Carl Mason won his third PGA Seniors Championship at De Vere Slaley Hall last weekend, shooting a three-under-par 69 on the final day to finish three shots clear of the chasing pack.
De Vere Slaley Hall welcomed some of golf’s most decorated names for the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship, and crowned one of senior golf’s most successful players with the title.
England’s Mason was in fine form on the Hunting Course, which saw him ease clear of Paraguay’s Angel Franco and South Africa’s Christopher Williams.
The win was the 21st of Mason’s illustrious career on the over-50’s Tour and catapulted him to 6th on the Order of Merit, closing in on Ryder Cup legend Ian Woosnam who finished tied-10 at the North-East’s premier golf resort.
"The Hunting course was in tremendous shape this week and presented a stiff challenge yet again," commented Mason, following his win. "We have been extremely well looked after this year at Slaley, and I am already looking forward to coming back to defend my title next year."
Players were rich in praise for the Dave Thomas-designed Hunting course, which proved a fair but stern test throughout the championship.
Paul Clark, Chief Executive De Vere Hotels & Resorts, commented: "Carl is a very worthy winner of the De Vere Collection PGA Senior Championship. He played beautifully over the weekend in challenging conditions and thoroughly deserved the win."
