Bob Hope Classic golf betting guide TOURNAMENT HISTORY This year marks 50 years of this event, although it has only been named after Bob Hope since 1965. Uniquely in top level golf, it's played over 90 holes on four different courses. Perhaps due to the extra round, results have been fairly predictable. Six of the ten champions this century have played in either a Ryder or Presidents Cup. However, while none could be described as impossible to pick, the last three champions; Charley Hoffman, DJ Trahan and Pat Perez; all started well above 50/1. Only two non-Americans - Jesper Parnevik and Mike Weir - have won since 1970. COURSE AND KEY STATS Some of those courses change between years, but all share the common characteristic of being straightforward target golf layouts, that produce very low scoring. Only one winning total this century was higher than -25. Most famously, PGA West was the venue for David Duval's final-round 59, back in 1999. Naturally given the low scoring, the key to success here is putting. Unless doing something incredible like Duval, even one bad day on the greens makes it impossible to keep up with the pace. The key stats to follow, therefore, are putting and birdie averages. Extra driving distance is of little advantage.
