2010 Ryder Cup dates revealed
The dates for the 2010 Ryder Cup match at the Celtic Manor resort in Wales have been announced by European Tour chief executive George O'Grady and Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan.
The historic National Assembly building in Wales was the setting for a historic day in the history of the Ryder Cup, as Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan and European Tour chief executive George O'Grady announced the official dates for the 2010 Ryder Cup at the Celtic Manor resort. It will be the first time that the biennial match between Europe and the USA has been staged in the principality.
O'Grady revealed that the 2010 Ryder Cup would run from September 27 to October 3. "This means that the countdown has truly begun for when the Ryder Cup is played in Wales for the very first time," he said. "I would like to thank both Rhodri Morgan and Sir Terry Matthews at the Celtic Manor for their superb support and we are now looking forward to delivering the finest edition in the history of the Ryder Cup."
"This marks the day when we move from the strategic planning stage into the detailed delivery stage, which will take us right up to autumn 2010," said First Minister Morgan.
"During that time we will ensure that all the required infrastructure is in place, that accomodation providers are ready and that the whole country is ready to welcome the world to Wales."
The next Ryder Cup takes place on American soil, at the Valhalla Golf Club in September 2008. Europe defeated the USA 18.5-9.5 in the last renewal at the K Club, Ireland, in September of last year.
