Schoolboy hits an ace at The Belfry
11-year-old boy hits a hole-in-one on the 7th hole of the Brabazon course at The Belfry
A Derbyshire schoolboy has hit a memorable hole-in-one on the Brabazon course at The Belfry.
Following in the footsteps of 2010 US Open champion, Graeme McDowell, 11-year-old Michael Oliver recorded an ace at the 156-yard 7th hole.
Oliver was awarded with a plaque by staff at The Belfry to commemorate the hole-in-one.
Oliver said: "I was so excited about playing The Belfry, but to get a hole-in-one on the 7th hole was amazing. I now have and engraved Belfry Bell stating my achievement and in big letters it says ACE!"
Supervisor of the PGA National Golf Academy, which is based at The Belfry, Alex Davies, said: "To get a hole-in-one at the age of 11 is something very special and what better place to do it than at the spiritual home of the Ryder Cup.
"With water guarding the front of the 7th green, it's a very imposing tee shot for any player, which makes Michael's achievement even more impressive and we wish him all the very best for the future."
