Sam Torrance joins 2013 Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship line-up
Ryder Cup here Sam Torrance will play the 2013 Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship
The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship has announced that former Ryder Cup winning Captain and 21-time European Tour winner Sam Torrance OBE will play at this year's event on the 6-9 August at Nailcote Hall, Warwickshire. Torrance is the latest major name to join a stellar line-up for this year's Championship which earlier this month announced it has doubled the prize fund to an incredible £100,000, with the winner now receiving a cheque for £25,000. The Scotsman who has featured in the Ryder Cup eight times as a player and non playing captain will join former team mates Ian Woosnam OBE and Peter Baker as well his former Captain, host of the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship; Tony Jacklin CBE.
The field this year will also include: Race 2 Dubai leader Scott Jamieson, Ryder Cup legend Brian Barnes, current Senior Tour star Gary Wolstenholme MBE, former World Cup winner Marc Warren, Champions Tour star Mark Mouland, European Tour stars Graeme Storm, Oliver Fisher, Gary Boyd and Robert Rock, among many more. Last year saw the event attract over 8,000 spectators to Nailcote Hall over the four days play and that number is expected to rise with the addition of some fantastic golfing and celebrity names this year. Amongst the celebrities expected to play at Nailcote Hall this year will be: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, South African cricket legend Mike Procter, England Ashes star Matthew Hoggard MBE, England's most capped player of all time Peter Shilton OBE, Strictly Come Dancing Judge Len Goodman, Snooker commentator Willie Thorne and BBC Sport presenter Dan Walker. Torrance who turns 60 years old later this year is excited at the opportunity to make his debut at Nailcote Hall, "I have heard so many great things about the British Par 3 Championship and I am delighted to be joining many fellow friends and professionals as well as some of the future stars in the game for what should be a testing week of golf". Matthew Hayes, Managing Director of brand agency Champions (UK) plc, who organise the event, is thrilled with the addition of Torrance to this year's line-up, "I am delighted with the progress of the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship and that we are attracting players of the stature of Sam Torrance. He was such a consistent and successful performer on the European Tour for over 20 years and his Ryder Cup record speaks for itself".
