Wirral Golf Classic a success
Two-year-old event already established after drawing in golfers from across the UK and abroad to give local area a financial boost
The Wirral Golf Classic has proved a major success story according to its organisers.
Started only two years ago, the event has been hugely beneficial to the local area with over 200 golfers from the UK and abroad in attendance. Organisers said that 95% of those were from outside of the Wirral and that the tournament had brought £188,000 into the area.
The brainchild of David Cromie, Royal Liverpool GC secretary, the Wirral Golf Classic is a 72-hole amateur tournament played over four of the Wirral's coastal golf courses.
Caldy, a former venue of the Seniors' Championship, Heswall, venue for The R&A's Junior Championships in 2006, Wallasey, which is an Open Qualifying venue and Royal Liverpool, host to The Open in 2014.
As a mark of its success, the Wirral Golf Classic is now supported by the Wirral Council, National Club Golfer and Titleist.
The 2012 event will be held on 1 October to 5 October and costs £219, representing a substantial saving if your were to pay to play each of the four courses. For more information and promotional offers for accommodation in the area please visit the Wirral Golf Classic website.
