Colin Montgomerie has been made captain of the golf club in Wimbledon to mark its 150th anniversary
Colin Montgomerie has accepted an offer to become London Scottish Golf Club's captain to celebrate the club's 150th anniversary.
The 2010 Ryder Cup captain will take up the position for 2015/2016 after he was voted in at the club's general meeting.
Montgomerie currently competes on the Seniors Tour in the United States, but is expected to make a number of appearances throughout the year at London Scottish, the third oldest club in Britain.
The 51-year-old is the second Ryder Cup captain to have a link to the club; George Duncan was a club member in the 1920s and was a winning Ryder Cup captain in 1929.
"Colin's a busy man and of course we're not expecting him to play the full role that a captain normally does, but we're honoured that he accepted the offer and it's a great way to celebrate our 150th year," said member David Groom, who will be vice-captain for the year.
Montgomerie, who also has commitments to broadcaster Sky, will address May's annual Club Supper via a recorded video.
He has won five titles since joining the senior tour, including the Senior PGA Championship and the U.S. Senior Open. During his professional career, Montgomerie won 45 times and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2013.
