Parque da Floresta Golf & Leisure Resort, the Vigia Group’s flagship resort, played host to the finals of the Macmillan Longest Day Challenge 2008 and helped to raise over £300,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Longest Day Challenge, which encourages teams of four play four rounds of golf (72 holes) in one day to raise money and awareness for Macmillan, held it’s finals outside the UK for the first time this year and saw an increase of over £45,000 in sponsorship revenue in the process.
The finals saw four teams of finalists from Abu Dhabi to Scotland, the best teams from over 260 teams that entered, play just one round on the imaginatively designed, 18 hole par 71 Parque da Floresta golf course that is the centre piece to the luxury resort on the Western Algarve.
Marine Harvest Scotland ran out eventual and worthy winners of the Am-Am event with a fantastic score of 91 points, although Macmillan were the clear winners on the day with tremendous support and funds raised for the Charity.
Ian Lulham, National Events Marketing Co-ordinator for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “The Macmillan Longest Day Golf Challenge has been a massive success this year culminating in a fantastic finals weekend at The Parque da Floresta Golf and Leisure Resort. We are delighted to have raised over £300,000 through this years challenge, which will help Macmillan continue to provide the medical, practical, financial and emotional support needed by people living with cancer in the UK.”
Billed as one of Europe’s most picturesque golf courses, Parque da Floresta is set in the Western Algarve, amongst rolling hills, golden beaches, timeless fishing villages and unspoilt countryside. With no two holes remotely similar and measuring 5,712 metres from the white tees, the course features varying holes running along valleys, past eucalyptus covered ravines, flanked by olive, palm and pine trees, with a variety and appeal that’s endless.
Just an hour drive from Faro airport and close to both the pretty, vibrant town of Lagos and the nautical town of Sagres, the award-winning resort is a superb all-round leisure destination and the perfect base to explore the delights of the Western Algarve.
