Tony Jacklin has been announced as the President of the Campaign for Real Golf (CFRG), which was founded by five golf lovers with no financial or commercial interests.
The initiative's aim is to restore golf to its roots; that is, ensuring it's Recreational, Enjoyable, Affordable and Less time-consuming.
Those behind the campaign believe the reduction in clubs and golfers in many parts of the world can be attributed to factors like equipment and ball development, course lengths, complex rules and handicapping systems and excessive playing times.
As a result, the CFRG believes potential new young players, women and families are being excluded from the sport.
Jackin - who is on record saying he fears for the future of the sport - said:
"All I care about is that we can continue to play golf and enjoy the game globally.

"What the Campaign for Real Golf stands for is all the key fundamental elements of the game which at times are being neglected and in some cases eradicated.
"I think the introduction of par-3 courses is highly important but also we must champion the existing courses across the world that have made golf what it is today."
