Household Cavalry Charity Golf Day rasies £29,000
The Household Cavalry Charity Golf Day, held at Kingswood Golf Club, raised £29,000 for soldiers injured during the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan
£29,000 has been raised for injured British soldiers at a charity golf day hosted by Surrey's Kingswood Golf Club.
June's Household Cavalry Charity Golf Day, the second of its kind, was organised in aid of the Operational Casualties Fund, which provides financial support to soldiers who were injured whilst on service in Afghanistan in 2006 and to the families of those who have lost their lives in the conflict.
72 golfers played in glorious conditions on the dramatically altered Kingswood course, which has had over £500,000 invested in it over the past two years.
On arrival, they were greeted by horse guards, two 'Scimitar' tanks and a collection of sniper rifles used for Afghanistani operations.
The evening auction raised just under £30,000. Featured prizes included four 'once in a lifetime' tours around the Household Cavalry barracks in Knightsbridge and Windsor.
On presentation of the cheque, commanding officer Col Toby Brown said: "It has been a real spectacle and a marvellous occasion, brought together by the two regiments of the Household Cavalry and the meticulous planning and attention to detail of the staff at Kingswood.
"I would like to offer my thanks to all participants and administrators alike for making it a success. The substantial money raised by the auction and entry will ensure that soldiers of today and tomorrow are very well looked after."
