Greg Norman's Danang Golf Club in Vietnam nears completion
Australian Greg Norman, two-time Open winner, will have his newest course design opened in April, The Dunes course at Danang in Vietnam. A proper links course that is already turning heads and looks to be something quite unique in south-east Asia
Danang Golf Club, Vietnam is the latest beneficiary of the 22 years of experience that Greg Norman and his design team have. They have created more than 70 courses on six continents and established a reputation for imaginative designs.
Set amid 280 hectares of tropical links-land, the Dunes Course was crafted in the spirit of the world's most recognisable links. The course is getting plenty of coverage on its reputation as being just as good as another one of Norman's most celebrated designs, Doonbeg in Ireland.
"Like Bandon Dunes or Doonbeg, Danang is going to look as if it's been here for centuries," said Howie Roberts, the club's general manager. "That's the type of course we were after, and I think we nailed it."
Harley Kruse, senior architect of Greg Norman Golf Course Designs described the new Dunes course: "It's wild and exotic and lends itself to the development of the kind of golf course the likes of Old Tom Morris was playing on in Scotland almost 200 years ago. For someone in the golf business, the chance to work with terrain like this is like winning the lottery. And that's how lucky we feel."
The welcome mat gets rolled out in April, when Roberts officially cuts the ribbon on this Greg Norman design and then all the talking and hype can stop and the pudding will be tasted.
When completed, Danang will also feature a 3,800-square-metre clubhouse, a practice facility with swing studios and a custom club-fitting lab – both firsts for Vietnam; and 190 Ocean Villas, luxury residences ranging from two to five bedrooms.
There is also call for a second championship-standard course and an international-brand, 5-star hotel, as well. VinaCapital Group, Vietnam's leading asset management, investment banking and real estate consulting firm, owns the property.
