Golf Foundation invites nominations for prestigious awards

The Golf Foundation, a charity committed to the sporting and social development of young people through golf, is improving its nomination process for the annual President’s Awards.

The President’s Awards will be presented next May during the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, thanks to the support of The European Tour. As the leading golf charity, which focuses its work on developing grass roots junior golf, the Foundation is in a unique position to recognise the individuals and groups who deserve special acclaim for helping youngsters to find a start in the game.

For next year’s awards presentation, the Golf Foundation is sending easy-to-fill-in nomination forms to a variety of golf, education and community organisations to encourage a larger postbag of nominations from around the whole of Great Britain.

With the Golf Foundation’s seven-strong team of Regional Development Officers working in schools and golf clubs all year, and with the Golf Foundation’s close links with the national and county golf partnerships, as well as hundreds of local sport partnerships, there shouldn’t be any difficulty in finding strong nominations for the awards through communication between the Foundation and the people who care about junior golf.

Mike Round, Chief Executive of the Golf Foundation, said: ‘Winners of the President’s Awards in recent years have demonstrated outstanding commitment to helping juniors. We have been delighted to give due recognition for their excellent work and have been inspired by their stories.

‘The need to widen our scope in terms of nominations actually recognises that there are so many people now working for the good of junior golf – volunteers, teachers, PGA professionals, club junior organisers and more – and the posting of forms far and wide will help with the awards process. We do not want anyone deserving to miss out on nomination because of a lack of awareness.’

Nomination forms have been sent to golf clubs along with the latest issue of the Golf Foundation newsletter, Junior Golf Matters. The forms can also be ordered from Golf Foundation head office (details below), or be downloaded from the website, www.golf-foundation.org.

There are eight President’s Awards to be won in all. Four individual awards include the volunteer and PGA professional of the year, a special award for making progress in golf despite adversity and The Sir Henry Cotton Award which goes to a person who has done great work for juniors over a sustained period. Four further awards cover successful regional golf projects of varying sizes and objectives.
