De Vere Slaley Hall raises money for local charity

Charity golf day held at the stunning North East resort is a great success as members and local businesses raise over £16,000 for the North of England Children's Cancer Research charity

De Vere Slaley Hall’s annual charity golf day held earlier this year was heralded a great success and resulted in a fantastic donation of £16,007 being presented to the North of England Children’s Cancer Research Charity (NECCR) at the end of last month. The spectacular Northumberland resort welcomed members and local businesses to enjoy the championship layout of Slaley Hall’s Hunting course before enjoying a gala dinner and charity auction, which was hosted in the resort’s Edwardian hotel in the evening.

A total of 132 guests took part in the event, including representatives from local businesses such as Benfield Renault, Jopling and Turnbull Ltd and JT Duffy Roofing Ltd. Slaley Hall welcomed guests, giving courtesy of the course for the day, to ensure the greatest possible total was raised for NECCR. Following the golf and gala dinner, an auction was held that included items such as a Carnoustie 2007 Open Championship flag signed by Padraig Harrington, a signed print of Johnny Wilkinson kicking the winning drop goal at the 2003 Rugby World Cup and a 2005 Seve Trophy Continent of Europe Team bag.

The £16,007 raised at the 2008 De Vere charity golf day takes the total raised by the event, since it was first held in 1997, to a staggering £143,000. Keith Pickard, Slaley Hall’s Golf and Leisure Director commented: “We are delighted with the success of this year’s charity golf day. The event is now in its 12th year and the support we received from local businesses and members was as strong as it has ever been. The NECCR is a very worthy cause, and we look forward to continuing our support of local charities in future years.”
