Chulmleigh Golf Course in Devon is looking for new owners after Roy and Sue Dow announced their retirement
Chulmleigh Golf Course in Devon is looking for new owners after Roy and Sue Dow announced their retirement after 11 years at the helm.
After seeing an advert in a golf magazine, the Dows arranged a viewing and fell instantly in love with the par-3 course - set in the beautiful Devon countryside - and 'bought it on a whim.'
The course was constructed in 1976 after a local farmer, pub landlord and golf enthusiast decided to spend £14,000 converting his 16-acre garden into an 18-hole golf course.
It was originally designed by John Goodman who, at the time, was secretary of Saunton Golf Club and Chairman of the English Golfing Union.
The course has enjoyed a significant amount of media attention over the years, including a 250-strong junior competitions aired on Sky Sports and Judith Chalmers visiting to record a feature for 'Wish You Were Here'.
Roy and Sue are now retiring, and will leave behind a thriving junior section they helped establish.
They emphasised how much they have enjoyed their time at Chulmleigh, and would recommend the fantastic lifestyle to anyone looking for a quite life with pleasant, friendly people who enjoy golf.
