Belfry to host Glenmuir PGA Championship final

The Belfry's PGA National course will host the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship final next year, accommodating 156 UK and overseas golfers for the £90,000 flagship event.
From June 14-17, the finalists - who have to qualify from a pool of 650 players across eight regional events prior to the final - will battle for the £10,000 first prize on the Dave Thomas-designed course that now features harder running fairways, severe gorse and steeper greenside run-offs.
The event will be supported by Peugeot and MPI Financial Services and will have extra significance as professionals contest for points needed to make the 2011 GB&I PGA Cup team that takes on the US in September that year.
"I'm delighted the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship is being staged at The Belfry for only the second time in the event's 29-year history," said Glenmuir's managing director Colin Mee.
"As preferred supplier to the European Ryder Cup Team since 1987, we've enjoyed many happy occasions there over the years and The Belfry's PGA National course will be a fitting backdrop for this prestigious final."
Meanwhile, The Belfry's Director of Golf Gary Silcock said: "To host a tournament of this size and magnitude shows how well equipped The Belfry is to stage major events.
"Over the last five years we have changed course conditions to go with the ‘inland links' feel of the design with firm fast greens, long brown whispy rough, gorse and firm fairways that give you an extra 20 yards roll compared to The Brabazon," he added.
