The Dane won his first event of the year at the Irish Open on Sunday.

Soren Kjeldsen has been around professional golf for a long time. 20 years to be precise.

Despite his success at the Irish Open on Sunday, the man from Aalborg, in Denmark, is not a player whose past victories roll off the tongue as they might do for Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy.

To acknowledge his play-off win at Royal County Down, here are five things you probably didn't know about the man.

1. It's his first tournament win in six years

Kjeldsen must have felt like he's been stuck in five-foot high rough in pursuit of his first title since 2009. The Open de Andalucia was the site of his last victory, when he shot a third-round 62 along the way to finishing three shots clear of David Drysdale.

2. His final round 76 is the highest final round of any European Tour winner since 2008

Eddie Pepperell might have thought that Kjeldsen's 76 in the final round would be enough to hand him victory in the Irish Open. Despite shooting 69 on Sunday, Pepperell was forced into a play-off with the Dane and Bernd Wiesberger. Phil Mickelson's record of shooting a final round 76 and still winning at the HSBC Champions event in 2008 has now been equalled by Kjeldsen.

3. The Irish Open is just his fifth professional win.

Generally Kjeldsen bides his time between victories. His first came in 1997 on the Challenge tour, as he lifted the Volvo Finnish Open title. He had to wait six more years before winning a second event, with the next one coming at Gleneagles in the Diageo Championship. He turned somewhat prolific by his standards when he won the Volvo Masters and the aforementioned Open de Andalucia in the space of five months between 2008 and 2009.

4. He loves rap music and hip hop

If you let Kjeldsen loose with the music in the locker room, expect something like Eminem, Run DMC and Cypress Hill to come thumping out of the speakers. The Dane admitted on his website that he loves to listen to rap music and hip hop, but has some awkward questions to answer when his kids are in the car.

5. He supports Chelsea

When your hometown club are finishing 23 points behind the leaders in the Danish league, you can understand why English-based Kjeldsen might opt for a team a little more successful. He wrote on his website that he and his family root for Jose Mourinho's side.
