A message from the editor, Neil Tappin:
For the lion’s share of the year, golf - for me at least - is about the mental and physical challenge it poses. Knowing how difficult the game can be, I love the feeling of putting together a good score. From striking the ball sweetly to holing unlikely putts, I’m a sucker for the competition and the rollercoaster of emotions that goes with it.
Then winter comes and the game undergoes a dramatic change. It becomes far less about the score and more about the experience. I step away from the cycle of emotional highs and lows and embrace golf for something far more elemental. Quite simply, I love being on the course when most others are inside and cherish the camaraderie this creates with those willing to do the same.
In this issue, we are celebrating the joys of winter golf with a feature from Fergus Bisset on his favourite things about it. He writes beautifully about the factors that make winter golf something to be revered. We also tasked Adam Harnett, one of our Top 50 Coaches, with identifying seven key shots that will help you play better this winter – you’ll find his simple but expert advice on how to play them inside.
