A message from the editor, Neil Tappin:
By the time you pick up this issue of Golf Monthly, January will be creeping towards an end, with the faint hope of brighter, less muddy golfing days on the horizon. It’s only natural to look ahead, so to be bold and risk setting myself up for a fall, here’s my 2025 prediction... Europe will win the Ryder Cup in New York.
If Europe is to pull off a famous victory, one key protagonist will be our cover star, Ludvig Aberg. Watching him compete over the last 18 months, you’d think the 25-year-old Swede had a decade of top-level golf under his belt. His poise under pressure allied to his obvious natural attributes makes him one of golf’s brightest prospects. Our exclusive interview offers a fascinating window into the mindset of a superstar in the making.
Also in this issue, rather than trying to predict how men’s professional golf might come back together in 2025, we asked Fergus Bisset to focus his crystal ball on the players themselves. He makes the case for a group of male and female golfers he expects to break through for the first time or emerge as contenders on the biggest stages.
What this piece and Mark Townsend’s interview with Lottie Woad highlight beautifully is the rich pool of talent waiting to burst through. Inevitably, these players will look to Aberg’s meteoric rise for inspiration. For the Swede, a successful 2025 would likely involve Ryder Cup victory on US soil. Whatever happens, the next chapter in his career will be one worth paying attention to. I can’t wait!
