Royal Liverpool to host 2019 Walker Cup
Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, has been named as the host venue for the 2019 Walker Cup match
The 47th Walker Cup, contested between top amateurs from Great Britain and Ireland and the USA, will be played in September 2019 at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake during the club's 150th anniversary year.
The last time this prestigious event was held at Hoylake was in 1983. The USA, captained by Jay Sigel, overcame Charlie Green's GB&I team with a 13.5 - 10.5 victory.
The Open Championship will return to Hoylake next year for the 12th time. Last hosted at Hoylake in 2006, Tiger Woods dominated the field to post a winning score of eighteen under par.
Hoylake hosted the Ricoh Women's Open last year and is no stranger to hosting top class amateur events. Hoylake has hosted the Amateur Championship eighteen times and it also staged the Curtis Cup in 1992.
Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Executive Director of The R&A Championships, said: "The Walker Cup is one of the most historic and prestigious events in golf. We are delighted to be taking the match back to Royal Liverpool in its 150th year."
The Walker Cup is played over two days, encompassing eight foursome matches and eighteen singles matches with each team comprised of 10 players.
Previous players in the Walker Cup include the likes of Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald and Graeme McDowell.
