Petrie slams USGA for Taylor decision

England Golf chief executive John Petrie has slammed the USGA's decision to withdraw Lauren Taylor's US Open spot.

Taylor, 17, qualified for the US Open after she won the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship last summer.

However, the 2012 champion will now take part instead of the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year winner.

Taylor has remained dignified despite the USGA's mistake, and tweeted: "There are always speed bumps in the road to success."

Meanwhile, Petrie said: "It's both a deeply unfair and a rather impractical decision."

The USGA admitted it made a mistake in previously awarding the US Open place to Taylor, who became the youngest winner of the Amateur Championship last June.

Taylor is currently ranked 17th in the world amateur rankings and has been signed by Baylor College, Dallas, Texas, on a sports-based scholarship.
