Macdonald Portal to host Lee Westwood Junior Open
Young golfers will be heading to one of Cheshire’s premier golf venue to play in Lee Westwood Golf School’s first Junior Open in August
Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa is home to one of only three schools set up in the UK by the former world number one, Lee Westwood OBE and is the chosen venue for his debut Junior Open.
Stuart Leech, PGA director of Golf at Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa said, "It is a great honour to be linked with the Lee Westwood Golf School and we are sure we can make it the best junior tournament in the country." The 18-hole Championship, Premier Course and 9-hole Arderne course have established Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa as a distinctive world class championship golf venue. Macdonald Portal has been working in partnership with the Lee Westwood Golf School for two years and now has more than 40 students taking the full-time two-year BTEC programme combining golf and education. "Students get an all-round education as well as the opportunity to reduce their handicaps considerably whilst they are here."
The student at the school are all based on site so that they can make the most of the practice facilities at the golf club.
The Lee Westwood Golf School Junior Open takes place at Macdonald Portal on Friday, August 24. Prizes will be awarded to U14, U16 and U18 champions in both boys and girls categories with two overall winners. There will also be awards for nearest the pin and longest drive.
