Lauren Taylor wins English girls' U15 championship

Warwickshire’s Lauren Taylor claimed her second national title in a week when she won the English girls’ U15 championship by two shots at Ramside, Durham

The 13-year-old from Rugby secured her win with a one-under par 73 in the final round, which was played in torrential rain.

A week ago Lauren also won the U18 title at the English strokeplay championship at The Berkshire.

It s great two titles in one week and I really did want to win this one, said Lauren, who was playing in the event for the first time.

She shared the lead through the first 36 holes but moved three shots clear of the field with her third round 76.

In the final round she went out of bounds on the first hole and started double bogey, bogey. But she didn t get rattled. I don t think about what anyone else is doing. I just play my own game, she said.

She soon repaired the damage with birdies on the 4th and 8th to reach the turn at one over par. Three more birdies on the back nine helped her come home in two-under 34.

Meanwhile, Lancashire s Emily Taylor also returned a sub-par score of two-under 72 in the difficult conditions and claimed second place . She s a member at Royal Lytham & St Annes and said: I like the rain we get it a lot at home and wind!

I was very pleased considering the weather . I held my nerve well and managed to keep everything dry which was the main thing.

Emily has come down from seven to four handicap already this season.
