Laura Jones gains victory in USA
Cheshire's Laura Jones has scored her second victory on the US women's college circuit
Cheshire’s Laura Jones has scored her second victory on the US women’s college circuit.
Laura, who plays at Royal Liverpool, is a second-year student at Oklahoma City University and captured her college's open tournament.
She led a field of 45 players in the Oklahoma City Star Classic with steady rounds of 73 and 72 for a one-under-par total of 145 – and a three-shot winning margin. Her play also helped her college to a comfortable win in the team event.
Laura won her first college tournament in her rookie year, only two months after joining Oklahoma City.
She was twice the Cheshire girls’ champion and the winner of the Leveret Trophy before starting her university career. Laura is a past member of an English Women’s Golf Association birdie squad and of the regional Select North squad.
Meanwhile Carley Warrington, whose home is in Derbyshire and who plays at Sickleholme, was joint runner-up at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational tournament at the Country Club of Salisbury, North Carolina. Carley is a student at Belmont Abbey College, North Carolina, and helped her college win the team prize.
County Durham’s Anna Scott (Consett & District) Co Durham, has made an excellent comeback from injury which ruled her out of the first two tournaments of the new American college season. Anna, a final-year student at Georgia State University, was fifth on her return to competition and followed up with joint 12th place in her second tournament.
