Hertfordshire golfer Sandra Moses scored a centenary bonus for her club when she won the senior English women’s north regional strokeplay tournament at Sand Moor, Yorkshire.
"I am absolutely thrilled to bits to win this, it’s fantastic," she said. "It’s centenary year at my club, Knebworth, so this is very special. I just can’t wait to get home and tell everyone."
Sandra was one shot off the pace after the first round but finished the tournament two strokes clear of the field with rounds of 80, 77.
She was paired in the final round with overnight leader, Sandra Paul of Huddersfield, who had notched up three birdies in her opening 79.
Sandra Moses commented: "It was very exciting. To start with it was a bit like a matchplay situation."
She caught her opponent over the opening holes and she took a decisive lead when she holed a long putt for a birdie two on the 10th. It was one of four birdies she scored during her second round.
Her scores reduce her handicap to five. Sandra, who will soon retire from full-time work, plays for Hertfordshire seniors and is hoping to devote more time to golf.

Another Yorkshire golfer was involved in the tussle for the top prize. Judy Butler of Malton and Norton was also one shot back at the halfway stage and played solidly throughout the second round until she double bogeyed the long 16th. She parred the last two holes but had to settle for a share of second place, alongside Sandra Paul.
The winner of the tournament’s Division B was Joan Somerville of Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire. She was one clear of Bedfordshire’s Elaine James (Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands).
