Golf Union of Wales appoint new coach
The senior teaching professional at Celtic Manor is set to join the Golf Union of Wales as South-East Academy golf coach
The Golf Union of Wales have confirmed the senior teaching professional at Ryder Cup venue Celtic Manor is to take up a positing coaching South-East Wales' future stars. John McDonald - who will also stay on at Celtic Manor - takes over as the South East Academy golf coach, nurturing talented local youngsters as they progress to the Wales squads and beyond.
"I am delighted to have the chance to play a role in helping so many of the best young gofers in the area," said McDonald, from Efail Isaf, who has also worked at the Vale of Glamorgan resort.
"I've had a taste of working with the elite players in my time, as well as the knowledge and confidence I have gained through becoming a national technical representative for Titleist.
"I have a passion for learning and enjoy seeing others benefit from my skills as a golf professional."
McDonald graduated with a first class sports science degree from Glamorgan University - where he wrote a dissertation on the golf swing in novices and professionals - before completing his PGA foundation degree in 2011.
"We are very pleased that John will be joining the team of top class professionals who guide the young players in Wales," said Golf Union of Wales Director of Performance, Ben Whitehouse.
"He was an outstanding candidate for the role who will certainly bring a high level of skill and experience to the position."

Nick Bonfield joined Golf Monthly in 2012 after graduating from Exeter University and earning an NCTJ-accredited journalism diploma from News Associates in Wimbledon. Nick is a 12-handicap golfer and his favourite courses include Old Head, Sunningdale New, Penha Longha, Valderrama and Bearwood Lakes.
