Gary’s Grand Finale
Gary Wolstenholme bowed out in style with a 1 shot victory in the 2008 Keepmoat Lee Westwood Trophy

Gary Wolstenholme bowed out in style with a 1 shot victory in the 2008 Keepmoat Lee Westwood Trophy. In the distinguished amateur s final competition before turning professional, Wolstenholme shot an impressive four round total of 267: 13 under par.
In second place was the Yorkshire county and local player Sam Haywood who fired a stunning final round 63. Haywood made 5 birdies in the last 7 holes to narrow what was a 6 shot deficit from Wolstenholme and place the former World Amateur Champion under severe pressure coming up the last. Wolstenholme held his nerve to secure victory, holing a tricky 7 foot putt in view of the majestic gothic club house at Rotherham Golf Club.
A further 6 shots back from Haywood, in third place was Jack Senior of Heysham G.C.
The cut was made at 144, 4 over par, after two difficult opening days featuring strong, blustery wind. The final two days saw better conditions with little or no wind and receptive greens assisting the exceptionally low scoring.
At the prize given ceremony Wolstenholme announced his intention to turn professional with immediate effect. Said Wolstenholme, I feel privileged to have won my final amateur event here at Rotherham in such a prestigious and well run event as the Keepmoat Lee Westwood Trophy.
