English strokeplay champion Jodi Ewart made a quick start to the 2008-09 US women s college season with a win in her first event.
The 20-year-old from Catterick in Yorkshire was six-under par for the 54-hole Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational and she won by a shot.
Jodi, a third-year student at the University of New Mexico, was trailing the leader by one shot with three holes to play. She birdied the par four 16th while her opponent bogeyed the 17th.
Altogether, Jodi had 14 birdies during the event, which was contested by 90 players over her university s home course at Albuquerque. She was under par for every round and her play helped her college to win the team title by four shots.
