England's Charley Hull has been struck off the Curtis Cup team by the Ladies Golf Union (LGU) as she will be absent from the team trial at Nairn on March 23-25.
The Woburn youngster has decided to travel to America having received an invite to the first of the season's Majors, the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
England Golf chief executive, John Petrie, has asked the LGU
to think again about its decision to exclude the 15-year-old from June's Curtis Cup.
"I hope the LGU has sufficient flexibility to revisit this decision and be able to select the best eight players for the team," said Petrie.
"The only winner here is the USA Curtis Cup team. While player agreements are important, the aim is to win the Curtis Cup.
"For a 15-year-old player, ranked ninth in the world, to be invited to
play in one of golf's majors is an outstanding achievement and for
Charley to be punished for her success makes no sense."
Meanwhile, Susan Simpson, the LGU's head of golf operations, said: "We made it plain to the players that if they didn't play in the training session they wouldn't play in the match. They signed an agreement."
The place in the squad has been taken by Georgia Hall, from Dorset, who is ranked 674 places below Hull in the rankings.
